How Our 925 Silver Jewellery Is Made: From Design to Finished Piece

A finished piece of jewellery can look deceptively simple. What you don't see are all the decisions, prototypes and processes that happen before it reaches you.

At Bombae Bling Jewels, a piece begins long before the final polish. From the initial idea and proportions to CAD, wax models, casting and finishing, there are several stages between something we imagine and something you eventually wear.

Here's a little look behind the scenes.

1. It Starts With an Idea

Every piece starts somewhere. It could be a shape we can't stop thinking about, something we've spotted while travelling, vintage jewellery, architecture, a particular stone or simply something we wish existed in our own jewellery box. From there, the idea begins to take shape. This is also where we start thinking about wearability. How large should the piece be? How will it sit on the ear, neck, wrist or finger? Is it comfortable? Does it feel distinctly Bombae Bling? Because a beautiful idea still needs to work as jewellery.

2. From Sketch to CAD

Once we know what we want to create, almost every Bombae Bling design is developed using CAD — Computer-Aided Design. CAD allows us to build a precise digital model of the piece and work through details that can be difficult to judge from a sketch alone. This is where proportions really matter. A millimetre here or there can change how a hoop looks on the ear. The height of a setting affects how a ring sits on the finger. The size and spacing of stones can completely change the character of a design. We can adjust these details digitally before moving into physical production. It's one of the less visible parts of jewellery making, but it's also one of the most important.

3. Turning the CAD Into a Wax Model

This is where the digital design starts becoming something real. Once the CAD is finalised, a 3D wax model of the jewellery is printed. The wax model gives us a physical representation of the design and is used as part of the casting process that will ultimately create the piece in metal. There's something quite fascinating about this stage because it's the first time an idea that has existed on paper and on a screen actually takes physical form. And it's also another opportunity to see how the proportions translate from a digital model into a three-dimensional object.

4. From Wax to 925 Sterling Silver

The wax model is then used in the casting process to create the jewellery in metal. Our silver pieces are made in 925 sterling silver, which contains 92.5% pure silver combined with other metals to give it the strength needed for jewellery. Once cast, the piece is still far from finished. It needs cleaning, refining and hand-finishing before it begins to look like the jewellery you see on our website. This is where modern jewellery-making technology and traditional craftsmanship really meet. CAD and 3D printing help us create precision, while skilled hands take the piece through the stages that give it its final character.

5. Stone Setting and the Details

For designs that include stones, the setting is another important stage. The stones need to sit securely while maintaining the proportions and appearance we originally intended in the design. On pieces with multiple stones, even the spacing and alignment can make a significant visual difference. This is often the stage where a piece really starts coming to life.

6. Polishing and the Final Finish

Next comes refining and polishing. Surfaces are smoothed, edges and details are checked and the piece is polished in preparation for its final finish. Depending on the design, Bombae Bling pieces are finished in gold vermeil or white rhodium. It's amazing how much the finish can change the personality of exactly the same design. Warm gold and crisp white rhodium can make one silhouette feel like two completely different pieces.

7. The Final Quality Check

Before a piece is ready to leave us, it goes through a final quality check. We look at the overall finish, construction, settings and functionality. Clasps need to close correctly. Earrings need to sit as intended. Stones need to be secure. The proportions and finish need to look right.
